The Health and Social Care Bill required the County Council to establish a Health and Wellbeing Board. There was a 'shadow board' set up in late 2011, to prepare partners for new responsibilities.
The 'shadow board' acted as an advisory body to the County Council’s Cabinet, Clinical Commissioning Groups and NHS Sussex. It assumed its full statutory powers in April 2013. The Board is committed to improving health and wellbeing across East Sussex, especially for people, places and communities who currently have the worst health outcomes. It will make sure there is a shared and comprehensive understanding of local health and wellbeing needs, and a clear strategy to meet them.
It is an unusual council committee in that officers vote with councillors and other local representatives. It has statutory powers and meets in public. To read more visit ESCC website
Voluntary and Community Sector has got one representative at the Board - Marie Casey, please do not hesitate to contact her directly.
