Big Event 2013

Communicating and Influencing Effectively: How can we better exert influence with commissioners and in the design of services and policies?

Held on 17th April 2013, International Lawn Tennis Centre, Eastbourne
This year 152 delegates, representing 94 organisations attended the Big Event. The event included a Panel Debate, themed Masterclasses, an Advice Fair with 36 stalls and a networking lunch. The event took a close look at the commissioning cycle with special emphasis on how the voice of our local voluntary sector can best be heard and involved in the design of services and policies. This is the fifth year that the Big Event conference and Advice Fair have taken place.
The Big Event 2013 featured:
  • speakers Michael O'Toole (Crown Representative for Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector, Cabinet Office) and Emma Easton (Public and Patient Partnerships Lead, NHS Commissioning Board);
  • a panel debate with East Sussex Commissioners (Adult Social Care, Children Services and Economy, Transport and Environment);
  • Advice and Information Fair with over 30 stalls;
  • and a choice of practical master classes:
    • Gathering and presenting evidence (practical session)
    • Public campaigning (practical session)
    • Leadership (strategic level)
    • Health services and the JSNA (Joint Strategic Needs Assessment) - (strategic level)
    • The commissioning cycle - exploring ways to be more involved
